On 8 October 2021, the CAT made an order permitting St James Holdings Limited (St James Holdings) to withdraw its action against The Football Association Premier League Limited (FAPL). St James Holdings is the owner of Newcastle United Football Company Limited (NUFC) and had originally claimed that FAPL had breached competition law by blocking a proposed takeover of NUFC. The withdrawal of action follows St James Holdings and FAPL reaching a settlement, pursuant to which FAPL received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control NUFC.
